SEARCHING FOR A SCHOOL ? ? The search for a quality instructors and a great school can be frustrating. Here is a list of questions to ask the potential instructors. Each is answered with our policy or thoughts. Good Luck, and if you have any other questions please contact us. Thanks !
1. Does the school teach the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and NRA Classes?
Most do not because of time. HGR Instructors are certified in each field they teach.
The NRA Basic Pistol is 10 hours long and is taught on request.
The State Carry Permit requires 8 hours. If you are in / out in less time with then you
cheated yourself, and YOU'RE NOT LEGAL.
The State recommends the school give you NRA Pamphets on Safety Rules, Gun Parts,
Use Dummy Ammo to load, unload, and clear assorted handguns. Does your school
you're talking to give out all that, let you handle all those guns, and then give you a NRA
Basic Pistol Instruction Handbook?
The additional training gives you a better comfort level for your Carry Permit.
2. If they do teach the Basic, Intermediate, Avanced, and NRA Classes, which of
classes do they teach ? (Personal Protection, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Reloading,
Muzzleloading, Range Safety, Women On Target, Refuse To Be A Victim)?
HGR teaches all of these NRA Classes. We also teach intermediate & advanced
level classes in handgun, shotgun, carbine, and rifle that are not NRA approved,
however they will follow a set lesson plan, set goals, and are objective based per-
formance drills give you the hands on experience that makes all the difference.
3. What is the class size limit? We keep it small (20) to give the personalized
attention students want and need. This why we require PAYMENT PRIOR TO CLASS.
4. What do they use for training aids? We use posters, video, dvd, and
many hands on devices. You learn best by seeing, doing, and understanding.
You also get the NRA Basic Pistol Text Book in classes that are related to the texts.
2011: We've added a Professional Series High Definition Video Camera to assist in your training. Seeing yourself practice allows us to guide you to a smoother procedure, faster learning, and builds your self confidence.
TELL ME I FORGET, SHOW ME I REMEMBER,
INVOLVE ME AND I WILL UNDERSTAND.
Repetition is the Mother of Skills and Learning.
5. What firearms will they train you on? For our Level 1 Handgun Course, we teach
you on the semi-automatic, the revolver, and the western revolver. We provide
them. Then we train you on your handgun. The same for Shotgun and Rifle ! ! !
IN 2011 WE ADDED A SIRT PISTOL. SIRT displays a red laser to show how smooth
your trigger pull is, and a green laser to indicate where the bullet would hit if the trigger is
jerked. It is also a great aid in teaching point shooting from the hip, mid-front, and below
the eye extension shooting.
6. How much actual shooting will you do? Our Level 1 Handgun, you shoot our guns,
then you shoot 150 rounds of ammunition on your handgun. You'll feel great!!
The State only requires 48, but it's not enough to let you get comfortable if you
are a novice shooter. We allow you to shoot as much as you want prior to testing.

7. How much liability insurance does the instructor carry? The State requires
$300,000, we carry $1,000,000 for the school, and $100,000 for each instructor.
8. Do they offer advanced classes? Our Personal Protection classes are advanced
and NRA Approved..
They teach a variety of things depending on the class. Draw and fire, speed,
competition, tactical defense, hunting: for rifle, handgun, and shotgun. We teach
SWAT Rifle Tactics for Law Enforcment and Military contracts.
We offer intermediate and advanced tactical, sporting, and hunting type classes.
9. Do their instructors shoot outside of the work environment? We shoot trap, skeet,
and IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assc.) which is real life street survival.
10. What other schools have the Instructors attended? See our resumes under the
About The Instructor tab. The Chief Instructor, Greg Knox, was a Sniper SWAT Team
member, a former lawman, a former Green Beret, and is a NRA Training
Counselor. Other schools he has attended are the top two in the USA.
11. Will they allow to qualify with a .22, and carry a .45? We won't, period!!! It makes no
sense to train on a gun so small that it has no recoil, and then carry a cannon.
You are financially responsible and criminally liable for each bullet you fire. If you
miss the intended target because you trained on a 22 and fired a 9mm ... you will
pay for a long time after you get out of jail.
12. Finally, will they allow you to take the class again at cost? At HGR, you may
repeat any Basic Course AT COST as often as you wish. Re-current training
is included in that offer. Cost usually means Ammo and Range fees. Why is
that important? You have a time limit to submit State Applications. Also we
want you to shoot frequently to stay "current" or expand your new skills.
You also get 10% discount on other classes taught at HGR Firearms.
1% Of Us May Use This Training To Defend Ourselves OR Our Family / Friends:
For those of us that carry, protect and serve or defend our nation, only one percent of our lives may involve actually pulling a trigger on another human being. The other 99 percent could be everything from taking your family out to dinner or all the way up to almost pulling the trigger on a battlefield in a war zone... Why do we care about training for that one percent so much? Simple: that one percent cannot go wrong. You can pick up the pieces from almost any other mistake in your life, except the one that ends that of yourself or a loved one. At HGR FIREARMS INSTRUCTION, we prepare people for that 1%moment, that moment that determines life or death of yourself, your loved ones, your friends, etc.
You may have AND SHOULD HAVE heard this TRUE statement in any firearms related training: YOU WILL resort to the LOWEST LEVEL of attained Skills during a stressfull event, such as a gunfight. That means if all you have trained for was the minimal training, such as the Carry Permit, your rote memory training, your life expectancy may reflect on your minimized training. HGR Firearms offers many areas of advanced training to make your skill level a 2nd nature, like riding a bike, like taking a shower, and like eating dinner. It will be natural. You will survive.
Note: I've invested thousands of hours in training and real life experiences as Green Beret, Deputy Sheriff, SWAT teammember, a NRA Training Counselor and NRA Instructor, and a lot of money to bring high quality presentations to you for learning. I encourge you to use our time together to excell. You Get What You Pay For
