SEARCHING FOR A SCHOOL ? ?

The search for a quality instructor and a great school can be frustrating.  Here is a list of questions to ask the potential instructors.  Each is answered with our policy or thoughts.  Good Luck, and if you have any other questions please contact us.  Thanks !

1.     Does the school teach the NRA Basic Classes?    Most do not because of time.
The NRA Basic Pistol is 10 hours long.  The State requires 8 hours.  If you are
in / out in less time with then you cheated yourself, and YOU'RE NOT LEGAL.
The additional training gives you a better comfort level for your Carry Permit.
2.     If they do, what classes (Personal Protection, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Reloading,
Muzzleloading, Range Safety)?   HGR teaches all of these NRA Classes.
3.     What is the class size limit?  We keep it small (10) to give the personalized
attention students want and need.  This why we require a deposit prior to class.
4.     What do they use for training aids?  We use posters, video, dvd,  and
many hands on devices.  You learn best by seeing, doing, and understanding.
You also get the NRA Text Book and the HGR 52 page training book is
available for $10.00 until they run out.

TELL ME I FORGET, SHOW ME I REMEMBER, INVOLVE ME AND I WILL UNDERSTAND.   Repeatition is the Mother of Skills and Learning.
5.     What firearms will they train you on?  For our Level 1 Handgun Course, we teach
you on the semi-automatic, the revolver, and the western revolver.  We provide
them.  Then we train you on your handgun.  The same for Shotgun and Rifle ! ! !
6.     How much actual shooting will you do?  Our Level 1 Handgun, you shoot our guns,
then you shoot 150 rounds of ammunition on your handgun.  You'll feel great!!
The State only requires 48, but it's not enough to let you get comfortable.
7.     How much liability insurance does the instructors carry?  The State requires
$300,000, we carry $1,000,000 for each instructor.
8.     Do they offer advanced classes?  Our Level 2 and Level 3 classes are advanced.
They teach a variety of things depending on the class.  Draw and fire, speed,
competition, tactical defense, hunting:  for rifle, handgun, and shotgun. We teach
SWAT Rifle Tactics for Law Enforcment and Military contracts.
9.     Do their instructors shoot outside of the work environment?  We shoot trap, skeet,
and IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assc.) which is real life street survival.
10.   What other schools have the Instructors attended?  See our resumes under the
Instructor tab.  The Chief Instructor, Greg Knox, was a Sniper SWAT Team
member, a former lawman, a former Green Beret, and is a NRA Training
Counselor.  Other schools he has attended are the top two in the USA.
11.   Will they allow to qualify with a .22, and carry a .45?  We won't, period!!!
12.   Finally, will they allow you to take the class again at cost?  At HGR, you may
repeat any Basic Course AT COST as often as you wish.  Re-current training
is included in that offer.  Cost usually means Ammo and Range fees. Why is
that important?  You have a time limit to submit State Applications.  Also we
want you to shoot frequently to stay "current" or expand your new skills.
You also get 10% discount on other classes taught at HGR Firearms.
Note:    I've invested thousands of hours in training and real life experiences as
Green Beret, Deputy Sheriff, SWAT team, a NRA Training Counselor and
            NRA Instructor
.  If price is your sole consideration, move on. Think how
much an attorney, doctor, plumber, & electricians cost for their servicves.
