N.R.A. INSTRUCTOR'S TRAINING
U n d e r C o n t i n u o u s D e v e l o p m e n t 12-20-06 2008: A Different C.F.I. Dicipline Class Each Month AUGUST 27-28-29-, 2008: Pistol Instructor The NRA Instructor's Program (Certified Firearms Instructor) is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and attitude to successfully educate your students in the discipline(s) you have become certified to teach. Instructors are EXPERIENCED SHOOTERS who wish to share their enjoyment of the shooting sports with their fellow law-abiding citizens. You will provide a valuable community service by helping youth organizations, educational facilities, and firearms oriented clubs in your area. As an instructor, you will need to complete the Basic Course of the Discipline, the Basic Instructor's Course (1 time only, after that you receive credit for the Basic CFI), and then teach that course with an instructor's evaluation. Upon completetion, you will be ready to face the public with confidence. The first course offered is usually Shotgun or Rifle. After that it is up to you which direction you go. You will learn the courses of the NRA Educational Programs, and we will give you guidence on how to set up your business (advertising, dealers, legal issues). Given time, training, and training aids, you can make a profit while doing something you love to do.
THE BASIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE (6 HOURS) This course is designed to teach you the basic fundamentals of teaching. Anyone can be an instructor (the simple transfer of information). We want you to be a TEACHER. A Teacher does more than recite information. A Teacher conveys the message in several different ways, using SIGHT, HEARING, FEELING, and THINKING to get the point to the student. If a student doesn't understand what is said, a TEACHER will know another way to get them to understand. The Basic Instructor Course only needs to be taken one time. After that, you only take the Instructor's Course of the Discipline of Interest (Shotgun, Pistol, Rifle, etc.) and the evaluation. The first CFI course offered is usually Shotgun or Rifle, your choice. If you have not had the Basic Dicipline Course, that should be taken before hand or in conjunction with the Instructors Course. Enroll in the Basic Dicipline (shotgun / rifle) Course, Basic CFI, and Instructor for a discount. The Evaluation may be the whole course presentation or parts of it as determined by the Training Counselor. Items evaluated include smoothness of presentation, use of training aids, topic knowledge, NRA Guideline use, attitude of the teacher, and prior experiences. EVALUATION REQUIRED: THE NRA REQUIRES ALL APPLICANTS DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY POSSESS THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTITUDE FOR EACH AREA THEY WISH TO TEACH, PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE CLASS. THIS INCLUDES MARKSMANSHIP, SAFETY, CLEARING AND LOADING OF THE FIREARMS INVOLVED IN A CLASS. I SUGGEST THIS BE DONE WHILE TAKING THE BASIC COURSE, BECAUSE IF YOU CAN'T SHOOT, YOU WON'T BE CERTIFIED TO INSTRUCT. INSTRUCTOR CLASSES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO TEACH YOU TO SHOOT .... THEY TEACH YOU HOW TO TEACH. Any doubts? Lets go shoot I'll let you know. (PRE-ASSSESMENT SHOOTING: Pistol: 3 inch groups at 50 ft AND you must be able to align the sights on the handgun). Shotgun: Greater than 50% hits on clay targets from a trap machine set at 43 mph, constant throwing path. The "Pre-Class Assessment of Skills" is an evaluation that consist of a written test, loading & unloading the firearms, and shooting. You may use your firearm for the shooting if it conforms to the NRA Guidelines. I RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS AS PART OF THE BASIC DISCIPLINE COURSE (RIFLE, SHOTGUN, PISTOL) using the Package deal if offered. TIME ALLOCATION: The time required for the Pre-assessment varies but is about 1.5 hours. If this is incorporated in with a Basic Course there is no fee. If you chose not to combine it with a Basic course, then there is a $50 charge for the 90 minutes (setup, transportation to range, written and firearms Knowledge test, and marksmanship demonstration). There may be a range fee if the range is required ($16.00 to the range). You may provide your own ammo and firearms if they meet the NRA Standards for the test. Ask for current firearms list. THE BEST OPTION IS TO COMBINE THE EVALUATION WHEN YOU TAKE THE BASIC COURSE WHILE IT'S FRESH IN YOUR MIND. Being an instructor will require training aids. That gets expensive and requires the costs become incorporated into the training budget. We present the best quality courses in the Tennessee Valley. I believe you will agree, you get what you pay for.
